John May

John May has had a long and varied technical and legal career after service in Vietnam.  There he served as a Reserve Foreign Service Officer with Top Secret clearance following participating in Vietnam Studies at the Foreign Service Institute.  Initially a computer programmer and program manager for Hughes Aircraft Company, he moved to the Hughes Patent Department as a patent attorney.  He worked in various operations including software, digital communications, displays, and human interfaces.  He then was responsible for many and diverse patent projects including Intellivision at the Electronics Division of Mattel Inc., the L-1011TriJet at Lockheed California Company, and telecommunications, computer printers, display terminals, and flat panel displays at ITT Corporation.  He entered private practice and in 1993 joined the intellectual property firm of Robbins, Berliner & Carson as a partner, which in 1997 was acquired by the international general law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.  John left Fulbright & Jaworski and in 2008 joined Robert Berliner again in Berliner & Associates.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Mr. May received a BSc. in Mathematics in 1963 from the California Institute of Technology and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law.

BAR MEMBERSHIPS

Mr. May has been an active member of the California Bar since 1966. He is licensed to practice before the Central District of the United Stated District Court, the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.  He is a registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
